The Federal Government through the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has inaugurated the Inter-agency Technical Committee on Non-Oil Exports. This committee is expected to develop strategies for addressing the recurring issue of rejection of Nigerian food items and Agricultural commodities at the International market.
Inaugurating the Committee, the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo stated that the Committee was carefully selected and comprises agencies responsible for certification, inspection and trade facilitation that must ensure that Nigeria Agricultural food items exporters conform to stipulated food safety measures and documentation requirements.
"It is my sincere hope that this committee, whose membership spans regulatory/certifying agencies, facilitating agencies and private sector associations will help to streamline and chart a proper focus for Nigeria's non-oil exports towards not only achieving a Zero-Reject policy but also re-position the non-oil exports sector as the nation's first line revenue earner" Awolowo said.
